PLDD is a minimally invasive procedure by inserting a needle into the skin which is aimed at the disk and then given an energy from a laser device which has the effect of shrinking or contracting the disk so that the nerve clamp is free. PLDD procedures do not require general anesthesia. Local anesthesia is sufficient only for the needle to be inserted. This technique uses the latest fluoroscopic C-arm technology which is known to be safe with a high degree of accuracy for healing pinched nerves.
