TREATMENT OF GALLSTONE DISEASE
1. Medicines
Medicines are used if the gallstones are small and the patient experiences mild symptoms or if the patient's condition makes it impossible to undergo surgery
2. Non-Surgical
Procedure Extrotorporeal shock-wave lithotripsy (ESWL) to break up stones without surgery, namely shooting shock waves through the body's soft tissue until the gallstones finally break.
3. Surgery
A cholecystectomy ( Cholecystectomy ) procedure will be performed if gallstones begin to block the bile ducts and cause inflammation of the bile or pancreas. Cholecystectomy procedures are divided into two types, namely:
- Open Cholecystectomy: Open cholecystectomy ( Open Cholecystectomy ) is a surgical procedure carried out by making an incision (around 13 – 18 centimeters) in the stomach.
- Laparoscopic cholecystectomy: This is a type of surgery that requires minimal incisions, the incision is to insert a long instrument equipped with a camera into the gallbladder area. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy only takes 1 – 2 hours.
