What is Monkey Pox (Monkeypox)

Monkey Pox Disease   (Monkeypox)   caused by a virus that is transmitted to humans through animals such as monkeys and rodents through contact with infected animals or consuming contaminated wild animals (busmeat).

Contagion (Transmission)

  • Close contact with infected person's respiratory tract secretions (droplets)
  • Coming into contact with an infected person's skin lesions
  • Coming into contact with objects contaminated with patient fluids or lesions
  • Through sexual relations

Symptom

1. The incubation period ranges from 5 - 21 days. The infection period is divided into 2 phases:

  • Fever
  • Pain To
  • Swollen lymph nodes
  • Muscle pain and fatigue

2. Eruption Phase (1-3 days)

A rash or lesion appears on the skin that starts on the face and then spreads throughout the body gradually. The rash will develop starting from red spots like smallpox (moculopapules), small blisters filled with clear fluid (vesicles), small blisters filled with pus (pustules), then hardens into crusts and then falls off.

It usually takes up to 3 weeks for this eruption phase to disappear or fall off.
