Kyphosis ( kyphosis ) is an abnormality in the curvature of the spine that makes the sufferer's upper back look rounded or abnormally bent. Common symptoms of kyphosis are:

  • The difference in the height of the right and left shoulder.
  • Differences in height or position of the scapula (shoulder blade).
  • The head looks more inclined forward than the rest of the body.
  • When bending, the height of the upper back looks abnormal.
  • The hamstring muscles (muscles behind the thigh) feel tight.
  • Back pain and stiffness.

Causes of kyphosis, among others: wrong posture; abnormalities in the development of the spine before puberty; and developmental abnormalities of the spine while still in the womb. In severe cases, kyphosis can cause pain, as well as difficulty breathing. Severe cases require treatment through surgical procedures.
