Gallstone disease or cholelithiasis is a health disorder where there are stones in the bladder or bile ducts. These stones are the result of bile fluid which solidifies into hard particles resembling pieces of rock - like pebbles
Types
There are two types of gallstones, namely cholesterol gallstones and pigment gallstones, both of which are formed from excess cholesterol and bilirubin in the gallbladder which then settles to form gallstones.
The presence of stones in the bile can detected with ultrasound or CT scan.
Reason
Gallstones It can appear due to various causes, for example because cholesterol accumulates and settles in the gallbladder. Gallstone sufferers often do not realize that they have this disease, because in most cases, gallstones do not cause symptoms.
Symptom
Symptoms of gallstones can vary for each sufferer, especially depending on the size of the gallstones formed.
- Pain in the upper middle abdomen or upper right abdomen
- Nausea and vomiting
- Jaundice (yellow color of the skin and eyes)
- Fever
- Change in color of urine and feces
Sometimes these stones will block the end of the gallbladder, causing sudden, quite severe pain. This pain is called colic pain and can last for hours.
